At Crossroads
Independent Baptist Church we believe that the Bible is the answer for all of
life's questions.
We believe that what the Bible teaches is both true and
relevant for our lives in this present day.
This is a summary of what we believe.
The Scriptures
We believe that the Bible is a supernatural book and that it is the very Word
of God.
As such we see God's Word as being our final rule of faith and practice
in all aspects of our lives.
We also believe that the King James Bible is the Word of God for the English speaking peoples,
and as such it is the only Bible we use in all preaching, teaching and ministries.
God
We believe that there is one, and only one, true and living God.
We believe
that He exists in the triune persons of the trinity,
and as such we worship the one true God: Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,.
The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is a divine person, equal with the Father and the Son and is of
the same nature. He is the active agent of the Godhead at work in the world
today.
The Lord
Jesus Christ
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is the second person of the triune
Godhead.
He is the literal virgin born Son of God. As such He is also the
visible incarnation of God himself.
He is the person of the Godhead who lived a
sinless life, died a vicarious death, was resurrected three days later,
and as
the High Priest of our salvation placed the blood of the sacrifice on the mercy
seat of God in heaven.
Today He sits at the right hand of the Father making
intercession for us until the day of His return.
The Devil
We believe that the Devil is an actual being and not an imaginary influence.
He
was created by God as an angel in heaven, and because of sin was cast out and
will one day be cast into the lake of fire.
His hatred for God caused him to
attempt to destroy God's creation by turning man's heart from God. He is still
busy about that same business today.
The Creation
We believe the Genesis record of creation is a literal account of how the
worlds were formed by the hand of God.
We believe that man was created in the
image of God and was given by God the responsibility to oversee and conserve
God's creation.
The Fall of Man
We believe that man was created by God in total innocence and holiness.
Man
chose, by voluntary disobedience to the command of God, sin and its
consequences.
With this choice man fell from the state of innocence to which he
was created and corrupted all of God's creation from that time forward.
The Virgin Birth
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ was conceived by the Holy Spirit in a
miraculous manner and that he was born of the virgin Mary.
The virgin birth of
the Lord Jesus Christ was in fulfillment of prophecy and was a sign of His
deity.
Atonement for Sin
We believe that man, because of his corrupt nature, is guilty and under just
condemnation by God.
We also believe that God, in an act of grace and mercy,
provided an atonement for sin.
That atonement is available through the finished
work of the Lord Jesus Christ who came to seek and to save that which was lost.
The Doctrine of Grace
We believe that God provided grace to all who will accept it.
This unmerited
favor provides one with both salvation in Jesus Christ, and the ability to live
a godly life in this present world.
Repentance and Faith
Along with God's grace, salvation can only be wrought by those who are willing
to accept the finished work of Christ in repentance and faith.
The Bible
teaches that the sinner, convicted of his sinful condition by the work of the
Holy Spirit,
must repent toward God and place his faith in the Lord Jesus
Christ in order to secure God's gift of eternal life.
Without both repentance
and faith, salvation cannot be acquired.
The Church
We believe that the local, visible assembly of called out believers is the type
of church that Jesus said he would build.
This is the body of
Christ and is commanded to carry out the Great Commission of reaching the world
with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Church Ordinances
We believe that there are only two church ordinances: (1) baptism and (2) the
Lord's Supper.
As these ordinances were given by the Lord to be carried out in
the church,
we limit involvement to those who are coming into the church by
baptism or are church members.
The Return of Christ
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ arose from the grave after his crucifixion
and now sits at the right hand of God the Father in heaven.
He will remain
there until He returns for his own before the seven year tribulation period
described by the Word of God.
After the tribulation period, the Lord Jesus
Christ will return to the earth where he will rule and reign for 1000 years.
At
the conclusion of the 1000 year reign of the Lord Jesus, He will judge forever
the unsaved and usher in the eternal state.
The Grace of Giving
We believe that it is the privilege and responsibility of every believer to
participate in the gift of giving.
Giving to God through His church is simply
the measure of the believer's love for God.
